- someone who is one of the first people to move to and live in a new area
I was born and raised in the great state of Iowa. Now, some people would disagree that Iowa could be so great but they’ve obviously never been there. I mean, Kevin Costner likes it in that one movie…
Raised by a police officer and a nurse, having a younger brother following in Dad’s footsteps and a younger sister currently majoring in pre-med, someone in my family was destined to have some creative genes. Luckily, that was me. From a young age I’ve had an obsession with organization, bright colors and different kinds of paper. At one point I had an intense paper collection that mysteriously disappeared when I went off to college… thanks, Mom.
I graduated from Iowa State University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts concentrating in Graphic Design. For those who don’t know, Iowa State has a highly competitive design program. Typography was the basis of each and every project. Through a variety of classes and a plethora of projects, I found that identity and editorial design were the two areas of design that I enjoyed most.
After college, I accepted a job for the area’s biggest healthcare system — Via Christi Health — and moved to Wichita, Kansas. It was my first “big kid” job and I’ll fully admit it bettered me as a designer and as a person. I worked with a small team who served as an internal agency. Being a part of this team allowed me to focus on visually effective designs while working in a fast-paced environment.
After much deliberation I decided I was ready to set out for a new challenge. Upon receiving my first email from Stacey, it was something I can only describe as “it just felt right.” Maybe it was our shared Midwest roots or the fact that our two favorite college men’s basketball teams were intense Big 12 rivals … all I knew was the opportunity to work for Hudson Studio was exactly what I was looking for and to this day, continues to thrill me.
When I’m not designing, you can find me: exploring my Texas surroundings; cheering on Iowa State athletics; attending concerts of all genres; hiking the mountains; traveling wherever I can, whenever I can; snuggling with my two fur babies: a Jack Russell Terrier/Schnauzer mix, Jake, and a tortoise-shell kitty, Pippa. That last one is definitely my favorite.
